Kim Kardashian and her new fiancé Kris Humphries have made their first public appearance since announcing their surprise engagement this week.

And while her tall basketballer beau was certainly a handsome accessory for the reality star at a fashion show in Monte Carlo today, all eyes were certainly on her brand new ring.

Kim let the stunning $2 million diamond really stand out by choosing a simple white gown for the event.

Kris, 26, towered over his diminutive fiancée in a sharp grey suit, blue shirt and sunglasses.

Kim tweeted from the event: ‘Backstage at the Matthew Williamson fashion show! He is amaze! Prince Albert Charlene here too! About 2 go on stage! I always get nervous.’

The New Jersey Nets star gallantly accompanied Kim to the fashion show, but she told fans that she would also be taking in some sport while in town.

‘Anyone into car racing?’ she tweeted today. ‘Gonna watch the F1 grand prix races while we are here in Monaco! Should be fun!’

Kim and Kris flew out of LA just a day after announcing the news of
their engagement, and the 30-year-old gave glimpse of the ring as she
scooted through security at LAX.

But the reality star and model proudly flashed the enormous diamond in all its glory at the fashion show at the Meridien Beach Plaza.

The ring is thought to include two Bible passage inscriptions, both meaningful to Kim and Kris, TMZ claim.

More details of the romantic proposal are emerging following the couple’s interview with People magazine.

‘I didn’t expect this at all,’ she told the magazine. ‘I was in such shock. I never thought it
would happen at home, and I never thought now.’

Although Kim has been vocal in the
past about her desire to get married and start a family, the engagement
still came as a surprise given that the couple have only been dating for
six months.

Kim’s mother Kris Jenner revealed that her future son in law went the traditional route by asking for Kim’s hand in marriage.

first. He asked Bruce (Kim’s stepfather Bruce Jenner) to play golf, and I thought, “That’s odd, why
would he want to play golf? I didn’t know he played golf?”

‘They went to
play and he asked Bruce, then they came back and he asked me,’ Jenner told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. ‘It’s really such an honour, and he’s such a sweet boy. He
makes Kim really, really happy – we’re thrilled.’

The Kardashian matriarch also said that no plans for the nuptials have been made yet.

‘Kim dropped this bombshell and went to Europe for a couple of days.
I mean, hello? So  I have no idea what she’s going to do (in terms of
date and destination) but I’ll find out in a couple of days,’ Jenner said.

But fans can bet on the whole lavish affair being broadcast on the E! channel – home to the family’s multiple reality series.

Kim’s younger sister Khloe, whose own wedding was watched by millions
on a network special, said: ‘I would assume it would be [taped]. comes
with the territory. We sell our souls to E!’

According to the New York Post, the network are currently working out
the best way to programme the wedding, by either weaving it into the
upcoming sixth season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which
premieres next month, or making it a special like Khloe’s marriage to
Lamar Odom, or even another spin-off series.

For now, Kim is enjoying the delights of Monte Carlo, before flying to London next week to debut her new fragrance at Debenhams on Oxford Street.

Kim and Kris are rivalling another stylish couple seen out and about in Monaco – racer Jenson Button and his model girlfriend Jessica Michibata were pictured leaving the McLaren Hugo Boss party tonight with Jensons’ McLaren team mate Lewis Hamilton.

Tommy Hilfiger to sell clothes at The Bay

NEW YORK (AP) — High-end fashion designer The Tommy Hilfiger Group said Friday that it will begin selling men’s clothing in 90 locations of The Bay, a Canadian department store.

Gary Sheinbaum, CEO of Tommy Hilfiger North America, said Canada’s “robust economy and increasingly discerning fashion consumers” influenced the decision.

The company described the setup as a “shop-in-shop,” encompassing about 500 square feet. The new displays will open by November.

In the U.S., Tommy Hilfiger entered a similar alliance with Macy’s Inc. three years ago.

Tommy Hilfiger is owned by Phillips-Van Heusen Corp., which also markets Calvin Klein, IZOD and other brands.

The bags of summer

The legendary Hermes Birkin bag may have been conceived because of a humble straw tote. Legend has it that singer/actress Jane Birkin was seated next to then Hermes president Jean-Louis Dumas on a plane. When she complained that her tote was difficult to get in and out of, he designed arguably the most coveted bag in the world and named it after the French beauty.

Am I thinking of “buying up from my beloved summer straw to the iconic Birkin? Since the wait list for a Birkin can be a year or more and the price tag starts at around $10,000, I’m thinking a really cute straw bag will probably suffice for this summer.

Alexa Chung & Shenae Grimes: Makeup Your Mind!

Alexa Chung and Shenae Grimes step out in style to celebrates Francois Nars‘ new beauty book, Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself on Tuesday (May 24) in New York City.

The 27-year-old English model and 21-year-old actress were just two of many fashionable celebs to attend – also at the party were designers Anna Sui, Erin Fetherston, and Calvin Klein!

FYI: Shenae recently began a stint as an intern at Teen Vogue! “With a million shoots to prepare for, the office was a zoo of clothes today and I don’t think I sat down once! I was definitely put to work, which is exactly what I had hoped for and while it’s been a while since I’ve felt this exhausted, it’s also been too long since I’ve felt this fulfilled!” she wrote on her official site.

SANTA CRUZ — Designer Jill Alexander knows what curvy women want.

She got hearty applause for her styles at the inaugural Full Figured Fashion Week Los Angeles in October and compliments from celebrities like Miss Plus America.

Now she’s been selected to present her line at the Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City, June 16-18.

“I’m really excited,” said Alexander, 42, though she admits to being a little nervous. “I’m really quite shy. I like to be behind the scenes.”

Her fashions, however, are anything but low-key, offering bright colors, striking patterns and innovative designs, which is why women with curves appreciate her.

“Jill Alexander blew my mind with her off-the-shoulder dress,” said a fashionista named Natasha, in a post-show interview posted on YouTube.

Sumer Noelle Lucksheider is a local fan.

“Jill’s designs are unique and different than most ‘plus size’ clothing,” said Lucksheider, who can be seen modeling on Alexander’s website. “We don’t want to wear shapeless muumuus, we want to wear clothes that make us feel good, that celebrate our curves, that make us feel confident and powerful … and she gets that.“

Jill Alexander Designs, based in the Sash Mill, is only 2 years old, but it’s built on Alexander’s two decades of experience in the fashion industry. In addition to the off-the-shoulder dress, her Steel Magnolia collection — currently in production — includes a wrap-style cotton dress, silk tops, cotton capri pants, skinny stretch denim jeans and a jersey jumpsuit, each selling for $100 or less.

Sales are currently in six figures.

“I’d love to be in seven figures,” said Alexander.

Her styles are only available online but she’d like to sell them in local stores.

A resident of Scotts Valley, where she lives with husband Ernie and two daughters ages 14 and 16, she described her career as a series of unplanned but fortuitous moves.

After graduating from San Diego State University, she went to work for Ann Taylor, where she learned visual merchandising. She discovered buyers like to see a full collection but they might scrap a third of it when they place an order.

“It’s all about the marketability,” she said.

Recruited by A Pea in the Pod, a high-end maternity fashion company, she learned how materials could be cut different ways to accentuate a growing body.

“The shape of clothes has to change to accommodate a curve,” she said. “I’ve been curvy always. I’m a size 18 right now.”

She found customers with curves sought her out, asking her to dress them.

“They were paying me to shop,” she said.

After her children were born, she got involved in costuming through her younger daughter, who has been involved in local theater for seven years.

She decided to go back to school, enrolling at West Valley College to study design and learn about manufacturing, before starting her business.

She makes frequent day trips to Los Angeles, where her clothing manufactured though she is looking for a manufacturer in San Francisco.

“It costs more to cut a curvy seam than a straight one,” she said, noting that designers who don’t understand the market cut corners. “To structure a plus size, you need to start doing it at size 12.”

The industry definition starts at size 14.

Almost half the women in America are size 12 are up, yet they have been overlooked by designers and retailers.

“Mostly there are online retailers,” Alexander said. “There are few brick and mortar stores where people can actually try things on.“

Merchandising is another challenge.

“None of it looks appealing on a hanger, and they don’t stock plus-size manikins,” Alexander said. “It’s kind of a vicious circle.”

She got positive feedback when she participated in the 2009 fashionART Runway Show organized by Angelo Grova, which filled the 2,000-seat Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.

“When they see plus-size girls on the runway, they go crazy,” Alexander said. “People want to see themselves.”

Thanks to the Internet, she is getting international exposure, selling in a boutique in Australia and fielding queries from Mexico and Finland.

She hopes a local retailer will carry her styles, noting plus-size shoppers are loyal shoppers.

“I have a lot of followers in Santa Cruz,” she said. “If there were a local store that carried me, they would have customers.”
